Meeting with Andrew Hayes
On Thursday, October 2, a few of us met with Andrew Hayes who works in Joel Anderson’s office on the county board of supervisors for our district. We reviewed the problem with restricted hours of parking, the fact that there is to be no other parking provided with access to the Mt Woodson trail, and the number of people who access the trail either early in the morning or late in the evening outside the planned hours for the Gateway Preserve parking lot. We also shared a few ideas for mitigating what we believe to be some of the County’s concerns about simply allowing 24/7 access to the parking lot. We also shared some map information from SANDAG, Google maps, as well as from Parks & Recreation, which all show the new parking area’s relationship to the Mt Woodson trail and the SR67 highway, so he got a good feel for the overall layout. (He has actually hiked Mt Woodson before, but it has been many years.)
Andrew Hayes seemed very receptive. He stated back to us that he understood that we are only asking for access; we were not complaining about having to pay for parking or any other issue. We just want access to the Mt Woodson trail.
He stated that he would set up a meeting with the County Parks and Recreation department to discuss this issue, and he would get back with us on how that went, and possible next steps.
This is just one more step in perhaps a long process to try to resolve this parking issue, but we all felt it was a positive step.
Many thanks for your ongoing support and interest,
– David
